Boy, 14, stabbed to death near McDonald’s after attack by up to 7 people

A 14-year-old boy has been stabbed to death near a McDonald’s in a “shocking and senseless” tragedy.

The teenager was attacked in Kingstanding, Birmingham, at about 7.30pm by “up to seven offenders” on Bank Holiday Monday.

Detectives have launched a murder probe as West Midlands Police say the force has “flooded the area with officers to search for the offenders”.

West Midlands Police said despite paramedics’ best efforts “sadly nothing could be done to save him” and the schoolboy died at the scene.

The culprits fled the scene, the force said, as officers appeal urgently for help tracing them.

Detective Inspector Ranj Sangha, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “This is a shocking and senseless tragedy. Another young life has been taken far too soon.

“We have officers with the boy’s family who are facing the cruellest of news this evening.

“My heart goes out to them.”

He added: “We will be leaving no stone unturned in our hunt for the callous individuals responsible for this, or for anyone harbouring them, knowing what they have done.”

Anyone who can help the investigation is asked to contact police by Live Chat on the force’s website, calling 101 quoting log 3313 of 31/5, or calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The force said in a statement: “A teenage boy has been stabbed in Kingstanding this evening (31 May).

“Sadly nothing could be done to save him and the 14-year-old has died at the scene.

“We have immediately launched a murder investigation and have flooded the area with officers to search for the offenders.”

“We understand the teen was attacked on College Road at the junction with Wardour Grove around 7.30pm by up to seven offenders, who ran off towards Chester Road.

“We are currently speaking to witnesses and fast-tracking CCTV enquiries.”
